ABOUT ELSA'S ACRES
Our mission is to provide a safe forever home for animals in need. We currently have 28 animals which include horses, pot belly pigs, geese, goats, dogs and cats. We are a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization and we are located in Westville, IN.
Over the years, we have rescued several animals…some were rescued by us, some rescued for us but many were acquired because they needed a forever place to call home. What started as my mom (Vicki aka Vic) wanting a horse she could ride, quickly turned into acquiring a horse in serious need of a safe home. From there, my parents began acquiring more horses in sad situations and before they knew it they had a herd. In the early days, the horses were stabled at a friend’s neighboring property in Valparaiso, IN. But as the herd grew, decided to search for property of their own. In 2006, our family acquired the property, built their home and rescue barns that we now call Elsa’s Acres, located in Westville, IN.
We currently have several horses (one belonging to a dear friend that boards with the rescues), Nigerian pygmy goats, two white geese that we deservingly refer to as the A-holes, and previously two potbelly pigs, cats and many dogs. It is a full time job to care for so many animals but we love them all. We also enjoy our wildlife here at the farm which includes several deer that we feed, two Sandhill cranes (they show up every summer, visit every morning and spend each day in one of the horse pastures), a flock of turkeys visit the animals regularly and on occasion red fox.
